| Time: Use it wisely! |
|
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil”(Ephesians 5:15,16). As important as time is to man, it can be difficult to define. Time is a great mystery, yet it makes life or living possible on this side of eternity. Scientists say all things exist in time and space. Every activity in life must be carried out within a time frame. Solomon the wise king said, “To every thing there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
It is said that time is money. This makes it valuable and thus expensive. In many societies one’s money or reward for labour is tied to time. That is why workers in industrial societies “clock in and out”, that is, register the time they arrive for work and when they leave. That is also why all professionals in the United States bill by the hour. It is therefore logical to say that a man’s time is his life. God therefore expects us to use our time wisely. That is precisely what out opening verse says. The question is: how can one manage one’s time effectively so as to get the best out of life? The Bible says, “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). The psalmist was asking God here to teach him to know the value of time and how to appropriate it to its fullest measure so as to achieve his purpose and accomplish his destiny. Life as you know consists of many facets. In order to live it satisfactorily, there is need for us to develop quality time. We need to study, improve ourselves, build lasting friendships, carry out our civic duties and other responsibilities, and have some leisure. These are just a few of the things one needs time for. You will agree with me that allocating quality time for these things can be quite difficult. So, for how long can I do these without pressure and stress and still achieve success?
